tonight i read an article on the anti-intellectualism movement, which was linked from a salon article about american ignorance of global events. the anti-intellectualism article reminded me of some thoughts i had while listening to short stories by f. scott fitzgerald :: what struck me most about these stories was the intellect and wittiness of the characters (granted they were ivy league students). Many had a clarity of mind that is hardly ever encountered today.
What happened? attention spans got shorter, vocabularies dwindled, and intelligent debate has all but disappeared from media. All the while, our brains are essentially the same as they've always been. interesting.

i just got hit by a car this morning. how strange. it wasn't all that serious... i landed on my feet... but the back tire of my bike is crooked. hm. the guy apologized profusely (it was his fault), and gave me $20 to fix the bike. for a moment i considered asking for more, since i don't think you can buy a new wheel for $20, but then i figured... "hey, the entire bike only cost me $65". oh well.

"Home is where the Ethernet is", so currently i have no home. roadrunner is backlogged so it'll be at least 2 weeks before my computer is online again. Until then, there might be the occasional guerrilla posting...
