After a couple days of slow darkening -- due both to daylight savings and the proximity of November -- today was a freakishly sunny day. Blue skies, warm, and a sunlight so visually harsh that the shadows seemed flood filled. It was as if the sun awoke suddenly: frustrated, insomnia-ridden and tossed off 3 days of grey covers to go watch TV.

Up late tonight, I watched the special edition DVD of Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon."
It differs from the widely released version because it includes some philosophical scenes at the front and has more foreshadowing. Anyway, I found out through the bonus material that he studied philosophy at the University of Washington (2 miles from my apt). Moreover, a quick trip to Google revealed that he is actually buried in my neighborhood -- this seemed both odd and oddly reassuring to me. In the Intro, Linda Lee says that Bruce loved this version (it suffered a Hollywood edit after his death and before release), and that while watching we should imagine him sitting nearby enjoying it as well. I had no idea how close to true that was. :p

I got mentioned in briefly in the Seattle Weekly (Oct 23-29), because of a recent 3 hour gig at the Green Cat Cafe. Here's a scan of it: "Club Pick" section; page 65.

I recently started viewing stats on my site and realized that people actually visit this site. How wierd is that? Likely it's mostly people I know, but the presence of an audience makes me feel like I should be doing something. Anyway, having now put up my photo section and revamped the navigation, I'm going to update the music section so samples of my works-in-progress can be heard/downloaded. Word.

I really like this definition, available at Kurzweil.net. (warning: sizeable Java Applet)

I'm really beginning to miss some of that old school techno jounx. Tonight ima write some nu-skool breaks, but not slow like the 2000 nu-skool push. I'm thinking golden era 140-150bpm... ahh.
Anyway, I'm working on a new series, nicknamed "girls and glyphs". See some here.

Tonight was supposed to be a quiet evening -- I was going to go the library, get some art supplies and unwind with some chess. Suffice it to say by 11pm I'd learned the difficulties of parallel parking with no engine.
::
It all started without a hitch. I finished listening to my audiobook on the drive home and made a stop at the library to swap it for a new one. Soon after, I picked up some art supplies and was home. On my door was a notice... I peeled it off, went inside and put a pot of water on the stove. I sat down and opened to notice: ugh. My rent payment hadn't gone through, and I needed to pay up or get out *soon*. I ran down 5 flights and got the building manager. After several failed attempts, she said that she needed a check or some other payment soon. I told her I would zip over to work (checkbook was there) and be back within 40 minutes. I got to work, filled out the check, called the card company and found that it hadn't gone through because the charge limit was low (for my protection). -- I realized that I had a pot on the stove! Speeding back, something went wrong with the car right near the point where I needed to cross 4 lanes of interstate 5. Luckily the car survived until I got off the main highway, but now I was stranded. At this point I would have called AAA, but my cellphone had been lost/stolen just 3 days ago. I made myself busy trying to figure out what had happened against a backdrop of white steamy smoke.
::
Luckily, after 15 minutes, someone stopped and let me use their cell phone -- (fortunately) he also gave me a ride back to my place. I ran upstairs ... turned off the stove (no fire yet), ran down, paid the rent, down to the garage, and now I'm riding my bike back to my car. More waiting: with the smoke is gone, I finish my diagnosis. Coolant. Check. Transmission fluid. Check. Oil ... no oil? I look underneath the car and there is at least a pint of oil in a splotch dripping down the hilly road where my car had come to rest. Gasket must have busted open on my way back from work and leaked it all out.
::
Once the car was towed to the shop, I found that there was no parking to be had... a little more searching revealed a spot (loading zone 7am-6pm) that required parallel parking. It's not so easy without an engine.
::
Anyway, now I get to wake up at 6am to bike over to my car and sit in it (to fend off parking people) until 8am (when the shop opens). I'll also finally get to use my Microsoft bus pass! -- When my (no-discount) replacement phone arrives in a week, maybe I can recieve a call from the garage to know when I get to *stop* using the Microsoft bus pass... </end quiet evening>

After much procrastination and very little ado, the photo section of my site is finally up. You'll notice it nestled neatly as one of the newly active icons on the left. Right now there are quite a few pictures up... my photographer friend says its like going through someone's messy room.
:p
well, enjoy.
