So: like many zealous fans, I saw the matrix last week shortly after it came out. Twice in fact. But having already mulled through the twisting plot possibilities for a couple days, I've decided to comment on something even more disturbing. While I'm not sure that everyone saw the same previews before their viewing of Reloaded, mine included a preview for the movie "The Last Samurai".

The movie is completely absurd. Why? Because the "Last Samurai" is white -- in fact it's Tom Cruise. To me, this is as ridiculous as making a movie called "The Last Eskimo" -- starring Chris Rock. I mean, who does the casting for these things? Were there no asian actors around? Anyway; coming soon... "The Last Southern Belle" featuring the Crocodile Hunter... ha. At least that'd be sort of entertaining. The *do* have alligators down South.

Soul Funk Brother
Last Thursday I saw King Britt and Capital A at the Baltic Room. The show was pretty good :: it started out with an interesting but somewhat low key hiphop homage and then opened up into nu-soul/house set later along. Pictures from the show are here.

I got a chance to talk to King Britt briefly and told him that I last saw him at Airport in Austin (Oct. 1999). He definitely remembered the party and referred to the night as "legendary." It definitely was... Ming+FS did an amazing tag team, Pharcyde performed, positive vibes and Breakers were everywhere... and of course the night was completed by a 3 hour set by Britt.
